Teams can now forfeit in knockout matches

Image
In a recent update to the simulator, teams may forfeit matches even during the knockout stage, a departure from the previous version where forfeits were limited to qualifiers. When a team forfeits, they automatically lose 0-3. Typically, teams with lower reputations are more likely to be selected for forfeiture. Within the match fixture interface, clicking on the "Forfeited" button will reveal a random reason behind the losing team's decision to forfeit. Some of these reasons are based on real incidents. For example, instances like players going on strike due to unpaid wages, similar to the Australian women's soccer team's boycott of a training camp, are reflected in the simulation.

New custom leagues and tournaments now available!

Image
The World Cup simulator has recently introduced a wide range of custom leagues and tournaments. While this feature is experimental and requires a lot of clean-up, these leagues run fine and are suitable for casual simulations. Within these leagues, team seeding is determined by their most recent Elo ratings in-game.  An important note is that you need to simulate the league consecutively to retain the integrity of promotion and relegation. If you stop simulating the league, even for just a year, it would result in teams being reseeded and placed in divisions based on their latest Elo ratings.Let's talk about the format of each new league: UEFA Nations League: Mirroring the real-life league structure, it comprises 3 divisions with 4 groups per division and 4 teams per group. Each group has one promotion slot (except the top division) and a relegation slot (except the last division). Winners of each group in the top division advance to the knockout stage. Division C has the remaining

Check these statistics by clicking on the male icon in fixtures. Please notice that the content is scrollable on mobile. The latest update has introduced several referee statistics to provide a deeper insight into the impact of referees on matches. You can check these statistics by clicking on the "male"icon in fixtures on the tournament page or on the referee page . This feature includes the following key metrics: Team encountered most This statistic reveals the team that the referee has encountered the most during matches. Team lost most under referee This metric highlights the team that has suffered the most losses when officiated by the referee, indicating any potential challenges or biases in the referee's decisions.  Team won most under referee This statistic showcases the team that has achieved the most victories under the referee's officiation, highlighting any potential trends or advantages.  Total disallowed goals This figure represents the total number

A new 16-team World Cup format now available.

Image
The 16-team World Cup seeding in 2030. The World Cup simulator now features a new 16-team format, offering a fantasy option that has not been adopted in real-life tournaments before (and won't be in the foreseeable future). This small team format ensures that only the strongest teams compete for the World Cup title. Default rules for the 16-team format: Co-hosting is not allowed due to the limited number of participating teams. UEFA receives 7 direct slots without playoffs, while other continents (excluding OFC) have 1 direct slot and 1 playoff slot. The host continent may receive an additional playoff slot. If OFC hosts, they receive 1 playoff slot, with the extra slot allocated to CONMEBOL to maintain competitiveness. Sometimes, the group draw in the World Cup simulator may not adhere to geographical constraints as in real life because of the limited number of teams, with the UEFA confederation taking up almost half of the slots. If you don't like the default settings, you c

New headline section throughout World Cup simulation.

Image
Headline about naturalized players set to play for a World Cup national team. The simulator now features a headline section dedicated to keeping you informed about ongoing significant events during the World Cup simulation. These headlines actually are some of the notifications you will get throughout the simulation, which you can check them in full by clicking on the "bell icon" in the header. Click the "bell icon" and you can check all notifications. Since this is a secondary feature, the headline section is located at the bottom of the page so that match fixtures will not get pushed down by it. Each headline includes a cover photo, title, short description, and details on how the incident may impact a team's attributes. The section is presented in a responsive carousel interface. The headlines are arranged based on their importance and relevance to the current stage of the simulation. For example, if you are on the knockout stage, headlines related to this s

For added insight, the text includes the top ten winners who achieved the most victories during the year range you select. After creating the list, you can conveniently copy and share it across various platforms, such as the simulator's Discord server or other social media platforms. Click on the share button. A dialog should appear on clicking the "Share" button. You can choose a different year range, and the top 10 winners will also change based on the range.

New updates on World Cup referee system

Image
The latest update has brought significant enhancements to the new referee feature in the simulator: Referees are now fixed by default. They are no longer randomly generated for each save. Like in previous versions, their reputations can have an impact on match outcomes, particularly affecting the number of disallowed goals in match results. It also ensures that referees will not officiate matches involving their own country during the entire tournament. Referees' reputations are dynamic and can evolve based on their performance. They can earn tokens by cutting deals with teams during matches, allowing the losing team a chance to retry before finalizing the match result. If the referee allows such match fixing, they will see a few points deducted from their reputation after the match. A new token icon in the fixtures to check whether a team has paid tokens for a second chance. After every World Cup, referees with low reputations can donate tokens to improve their reputation, offeri

Every save will now have a set of referees officiating every matches!

Image
Introducing an Exciting New Feature: Referee Characters in Forever World Cup Simulator!   With each new save, a unique set of random referees will be generated to officiate every single match in the World Cup tournament. These referees come with their own reputation attribute, which can affect the fairness and controversy of each match. The lower a referee's reputation, the greater the likelihood of disallowed goals occurring during a match.   On every match card, simply click on the "male" icon to explore the referee's profile. Here, you can view their profile picture, reputation attribute, and more.   If the match has goals disallowed, clicking on the ball icon will reveal the number of goals that were controversially ruled out by the referee.   The simulator has a mechanism to enhance fairness in critical matches. Reputable referees may be more likely to officiate crucial matches such as the final and third-place playoffs. However, there is no absolute assur

Updated on 02 Apr 2024 :  This article is outdated. The simulator has just introduced many custom leagues or tournaments for you to play with. Here's the direct link to create Euro Cup 2024+. The new 24-team World Cup format is now available, which means you can also simulate a Euro 24 tournament. Follow these steps to run a Euro 24 simulation in less than a minute: 1. Choose Germany as the host country. Ignore the red colored warning for now. 2. Set the starting stage to "Group stage". 3. Choose "UEFA" for the "pick hosts from only one confederation" option. This ensures that a UEFA country is selected as the host instead of countries from other continents, allowing you to simulate a Euro tournament indefinitely. 4. Select "24" as the number of teams in the group stage. 5. Click the "Create World Cup 2026" button to start a custom tournament. 6. Now, on the tournament page, manually copy and paste the following teams into the tex

World Cup tokens are now adjusted based on how S&P 500 is doing in the simulation

Image
Get ready for a revolutionary new feature in our World Cup football simulator: World Cup tokens are now linked to the performance of the S&P 500! If the stock market is thriving, winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place) will receive more tokens than usual. On the other hand, if the market is struggling, winners will receive fewer tokens. These tokens are used internally to determine whether a team can retry and reset a scoreline when they're losing in match simulation. With more World Cup trophies, teams can earn more chances to retry when things aren't going their way, potentially having a significant impact on match results. $SPY closing price in the final You can check how many tokens a team has amassed over the years in their team overview card: Updated 20 Mar 2024: In the recent updates , teams are required to pay both the referee and the opposing team the equal amount of tokens in order to have a second chance.

New independent South American teams available to join the World Cup

Image
Four South American independent teams have been added to the Forever World Cup Simulator site . They are Easter Island, Aymara, Mapuche and Roraima. I found these teams on this Wikipedia page about non-FIFA football federations in South America. Since they are not affiliated to FIFA, they are optional teams and you need to manually add them to the database before starting WC2026. I am not familiar with these teams, so their attributes are kinda random for now. Here’s the “Teams” section where you can add these independent / unaffiliated teams to the World Cup tournaments: After you start the World Cup 2026, a new CONMEBOL preliminary tournament should be scheduled for the start of the World Cup 2026. These teams will compete alongside Bolivia and the Falkland Islands for a slot in the CONMEBOL qualifiers. There's no way for these teams to get qualified realistically. Just watch how Bolivia/ Peru / Chile / Venezuela owns these teams for years to come! Follow the late
